The Boží Dar peat bog complex is a large upland moor located on a watershed and covering an area of 105 ha, with maximum thickness of 5.5 m and situated 990-1,035 m above sea level. It lies in a moderately warm to cold area, with an average annual temperature of 4.1°C and an average annual rainfall of 1,249 mm. The peat bog complex was exploited in its N and NE parts. It had four cores, the main in its NW portion, the cores being gradually linked together. Palynological study was carried out in the V rezervaci and BD profile deposit lying on the E slope of the Špičák mountain (1,115 m a.s.l.) near the village of Boží Dar. The bedrock consists of albite-chlorite-sericite phyllites, muscovite phyllites, migmatites, muscovite mica schists and quartzitic mica schists.
