Abstrakt (anglicky)
The brief introduction to the Sudetes presented above has hopefully demonstrated that the region has had an extremely complex magmatic and metamorphic history that has been decipherable only when care has been taken to isolate the individual stages in the poly-phase evolution. Even taking the problems of poly-metamorphism and tectonic rejuvenation into consideration the problems of poor exposure combined with the complexities induced by faulting make large-scale correlation often speculative. The fact that we are looking at different structural levels of the same tectonic units is often not apparent in such regions without significant relief contrast. Taken as a whole, the data presented here compare well with what is known from other parts of the Bohemian Massif or Variscan Belt. The lower Palaeozoic age of rifting-related magmatism within Cadomian-consolidated basement blocks is now well established.
Likewise, the variation in metamorphic grade in juxtaposed units, the presence of blueschist, eclogites and high pressure granulites, and the clear distinction between Pre-Carboniferous and Carboniferous stages of high pressure metamorphism are all now well known features of the Variscan evolution of Europe. We hope that this short excursion, giving a brief glimpse of the wide variety of geological and natural highlights of the Sudetes, will encourage geoscientists to return for longer visits in the future
