Abstrakt (anglicky)
Paper presents the results of measurement of the volumetric amount of sediments in the Czech section of Elbe river. The measurement concerns the cohesive sediments only sseing that the amount of of uncosolidate new sediments (mobil fluid mud) cannot be assessed anyway due to the rapid changes of their state, i.e. they can be controlled together with suspended load only. The aim of this work was to assess the amount of selected heavy metals, arsenic and total phosphorus in sediments. Thus, besides of the volume, the density of dry matter in sediments as related with humidity was determined. Quality of sediments has been controlled systematically from 1990. Up to 1995, rapid improvement of quality appeared and now concentrations of pollutants fluctuate. Thus we used, for computation of total amounts of different pollutants, concentrations corresponding to the state in fall 1998. All results are plotted in three Tables. Tab.
1 present the hydraulic properties of different river sections and pools and the volume of cohesive sediments in them. Tab. 2 bring the relation between density of sediments and their humidity as it was determined using undisturbed samples. The amounts of pollutants in tons (resp. kg) are plotted in Tab. 3. One can see that, in spite of massive pollution of the river between 1955-1990, the content of dangerous pollutants in sediments of Czech Elbe river is not high. This relatively favourable fact was caused by the effect of inland navigation which prevented sedimentation in the main channel of the river
