Abstrakt (anglicky) | | | Humans exposed to pollutant indoor air on a long-term basis are at higher risk of impairment of their immune system and of developing allergy and irritation. The main factors of this pollution are bacteria, moulds and dust mine allergens. These agents are dangerous in the air, their indoor sources being predominantly carpets and upholstered furniture. the sorption of these and other pollutants on zeolites was studied. Addition of zeolites (1.65 g) to household dust (1.0 g) after 10 minute contact and fractionating in laboratory experiments revealed the main part of bacteria, sporulating bacteria and moulds to be in the fractions of house dust predominantly composed of zeolites. Dust mite allergens were also found in the fraction of household dust with zeolite particles after contact treatment. The concentration of microorganisms in the air after vacuum-cleaning was sampled by an aeroscope in a room where the carpet was either non-treated with zeolites (6g . m-2).
|
| The concentration of bacteria and spores of moulds in the air was lower after contact of zeolites with dust than without it. Microbial investigation of carpet demonstrated the effect of zeolites on bacteria and moulds - more microorganisms were found in carpet before being treated with zeolites than afterwards. Sorption of bacteria, moulds and mite allergens 5-25 um is supposed on 100-400 um particles of zeolites probably in consequence of surface charges of both, biological particles and minerals. The adsorption of other allergenic agents - pollens and cat-derived allergenic material - to zeolites has also been studied
