   Magmatic, metamorphic, fossil, meteoric and oceanic water are interconnected by slow geologic and fast hydrologic cycle. Advances in isotopic geochemistry bring a deeper insight into the evolution of the genetic types. Tracers with a wide dating range enable us to follow secular chemical changes in sedimentary basins. Common existence of fossil brines in oil fields, fluid inclusions in minerals and in fractures in old crystalline platforms suggest that the geologically old stagnant waters are result of secular development of the Earth crust. Changes in contents of specific elements and isotopic ratios indicate intimate relationship between deep tectonic processes and composition of ground water. A simple diagram is used to visualize the changes and relationships.
