   This contribution briefly describes the distribution of coal seams within the Šverma Mine Group of Seams. The commonly used subdivision of the group of seams into underlying and overlying subgroups separated by a conglomerate horizon is based on diagrams of areal distribution of coal seams and content of organic matter expressed in the form of specific fuel (for coal seams with min. thickness 0.4 m and max. 60ash content). These diagrams also indicate the presence of smaller-scale units composed of several lower-order cycles in both coal subgroups. Each of these units is characterized by gradual spread of the area of coal deposition and increase in specific fuel content. However, this trend is associated with no lithological change such as fining of sediments or reduction in lower-order cycle thickness. Maximum coal accumulation lies in the upper thirds of both the overlying and the underlying subgroups of seams.
   Only rare and scattered coal beds occur at the base and grade upward laterally more persistent, usually meander-like coal beds covering an area of up to several square kilometres. Gradual widening of the depositional area to the NW resulted in a shift of conditions favourable for peat deposition in this direction, as documented by younger seams
