Abstrakt (anglicky)
   The relationship between petrology and geology of mineral deposits has always been very close. Already in the first period of the existence of petrography as a separate scientific branch at Charles University, great attention was paid to the petrographic investigation of ore deposits. Besides petrographic characteristics of these deposits, investigation was concentrated on the problems of genesis of selected ore deposits, namely in the area of the Central Bohemian Pluton. Recently attention of the Department of Petrology at Charles Univerity has been aimed especially at the study of petrogenesis of volcanosedimentary and hydrothermal deposits linked up with spilite - keratophyre volcanism. The petrologic investigation represents an integral part of the complex investigation and prospecting for ore deposits but it chiefly deals with descriptive characteristics of rocks of the ore-bearing complexes.
   Further development of petrology in the investigation, exploration and prospecting of ore deposits should be aimed at a systematic application of the formation analysis of magmatites and its use for the prognostic evaluation of the given areas. For sedimentologic and metamorphogenic deposits the facies analysis and reconstruction of the individual petrogenetic processes are of utmost importance. No less significant is the experimental and global petrology which offers valuable information in reconstructing the structural pattern of geotectonic units in which the studied deposits occur. More attention should be drawn to the modern methods of rock classification, including classification of epigenetically metamorphosed rocks
