Abstrakt (anglicky)
Animal bones from certain sites in the area of Dolní Věstonice were analysed. The first site, DV II (lower western slope, 3-3, 5x23 m) only represents a portion of a large site. The presence of mammoth, foxes (ice-fox and common fox), wolfs, hares, reindeer, horses and, more rarely, bears, lions and wild cats was recognized. One of the ulnae was gnawed by hyena, hereas other bones were crushed by humans. The occurrence of wild cat indicates more temperate and humid conditions. From osteometrical point of view, these animals are similar to data from other sites of similar age. The second site is DV IIa. Bones and teeth of mammoth, reindeer, wolfs, bison, horses, lion and wild cat were recognized here. Part of the bones was related to hearths, and some of these ere crushed by humans. Basing on a molar of young lion, I propose that this site was settled between September and June.
From osteometrical point of view, the animals are comparable to those from other Palaeolithic sites, including the Bohemian and Moravian karst. The third site is DV III, discovered in 1969 and reopened in 1993-1995. It is composed of two settlement unit, and the fauna from both was analysed. The bones are of mammoths, wolfs, horses, reindeers and rhinoceros. All bones are uniformly distributed over the whole area of the site. From osteometrical point of view, the animals are comparable to those from other sites. Basing on the faunal composition, I suggest that the site was settled under colder conditions
