Abstract (in english)
An unusually large and branched Karpatian (Neogene) lichenoporid bryozoan from the Korneuburg Basin (Lower Auslria; north of Vienna) is described as Grammascosoecia dpomsa CANU & BASSLER. Grown more or less only in one plane and measuring almost 6 cm in greatest spread, the colony has short branches, some dividing into branchlets. The surface structure is characterized by fascicles, measuring about 3 mm in diameter and consisting of usually 8 to 12 multiserial auto- and kenozooecial rows which are radially arranged around relatively wide round or elliptical centres. The polygonal zooecial tubes measure about 0,1 mm in diameter and show zigzag-shaped wall sections where new zooecical tubes are borne. Most fascicles build very shallow elevations, which resemble to chaetetid sclerosponges with small mamelones and short astrorhizal structures. However, in contrast to sclerosponges they show no diaphragms, therefore the colony was determined as a lichenoporid bryozoan
