Abstract (in english)
Moderately diverse, graptolite faunas of the ascensus-acuminatus Biozone, recorded from many Lower Paleozoic outcrops in peri-Gondwanan Europe (PGE), are considerably uniform. The faunas, however, allow a further, although as yet entirely informal, biostratigraphical subdivision of the biozone into at least three subzones. The lower subzone is characterized by abundant A. ascensus and Neodipl. lanceolatus, the middle one by Norm. trifilis, Cyst. ancestralis, and the co-occurrence of the two zonal index graptolites, and the upper subzone by the disappearance of A. ascensus and Neodipl. lanceolatus, appearance of Neodipl. dimiutus (apographon) and an abundance of Norm. normalis and Par. acuminatus.
Though the true picture of Silurian graptolite biogeography may be obscured by graptolite misidentifications by some authors, clear differences between the acuminatus graptolite faunas of the PGE and Circum-equatorial provinces demonstrate a distinct provincialism of these early Silurian graptolite faunas
