Abstract (in english)
Jan Krejčí (1825-1887) also dealt with geography. Of great importance was his orographic division of the Carpathians in Slovakia. When delimiting the particular zones, however, Krejčí considered the geological structure only, starting from the oldest minerals. Almost simultaneously, Dionýz Štúr (1827-1893), a Slovak geologist, made another division of the Slovak Carpathians. The first modern division was made in 1956 by another Czech geographer, Jan Hromádka (1886-1986). The latest division, which was published in 1986, is due to two Slovak geographers, Emil Mazúr and Michal Lukniš
