Abstract (in english)
   ressure hydrolysis of aqueous ammonium alum to basic ammonium sulphate ("ammonium alunite") according to the equation 3 NH4Al(SO4)2 + 6 H2O - NH4Al3(OH)6(SO4)2 + (NH4)2SO4 + 3H2SO4 can be favorably influenced by temperature (T150°C) and by neutralization of free sulphuric acid, e.g. by aqueos ammonia or aluminium oxide. Addition of Al2O3 could eliminate completely (in the limiting case) formation of acidic solutions of ammonium suphate" NH4AL(SO4)2 + Al2O3 + 3H2O - NH4Al3(OH)6(SO4)2. In the laboratory experiment, crystallization of ammonium alunite was carried out in stirred batch autoclave. The efect of temperature (150-240°C), initial concentration of ammonium alum solution (425-850 g NH4Al(SO4)2.12H2O/litre) and addition of Al2O3 and NH3 upon crystallization yield and particle size distribution of ammonium alunite was determined. Under optimum process conditions, the yield of 94 to 99 = (aluminium converted to alunite) was obtained.
   The process is proposed as a part of the desalination technology for waste waters from in situ underground uranium leaching in Northern Bohemia
