Abstract (in english)
   The Grant Agency of the Czech Republic was established in 1992 by the Act "On State Support of Research and Development". Its role is it provide, on the basic of public competition, financial support for research and development projects submitted by organizations and individuals. The main authority of the Agency is the Presidium, componed of five members. Five Committees for research disciplines have a function of permanent advisory groups. Each discipline is further subdivided into subdisciplines. E.g. Natural sciences are subdivided into mathematics and informatics, physics, chemistry and ecological biology. In 1996, out of 2004 presented proposal 696 were accepted and financed. In Natural sciences this number makes 250 financed projects out of 652 proposals. The total budget for the whole Grant Agency in 1996 was 750 mil. Czech Crowns. Out of this sum, 240 mil. Crowns were allocated for Natural Sciences.
   In the Czech geological Survey, research organization of the Ministry of the Environment, grant projects represent an integral part of its research activities. In 1996, 40 grant projects of basis and apllied research are among the Survey's programmes. They represent supporting research activities for the main regional geological and environmental programmes
