Abstract (in english)
   The Brno massif has a characteristic two-part structure formed by eatsern and western granotoid sectors of Upper Proterozoic age. Relatively narrow (2-8 km) so called metabasite zone built of two belts (metadiorite belt on the west and metabasalte one on the east) is situated between granitoid parts. The author sampled a basaltic dike that together with a stock of rhyolite penetrates deformed and metamorphosed basic and ultrabasic rocks of the western metadiorite belt in the abandoned Old quarry at Želešice (8km south of Brno). The basaltic dike was analysed by K-Ar method in the Laboratory of Isotopic Geology, Geological Survey of Slovakia, Bratislava and it yielded the following data: 434 8 My (by isotopic dilution) and 438 16My (volumetrically).
   Comparing to the latest geological time scale (Gradstein - Ogg 1996), the age corresponds to the Lower Silurian Our data need a verification by another isotopic method because no Silurian magmatic activity within the Brunovistulicum has been supposed yet
