Abstract (in english)
The Jihlava River valley cuts the southern part of the Brno Massif horst. Course of the valley and its direction is predisposed by the NW-SE regional fault system of the Bohemian Massif. The both erosional and tectonic origin of this deep valley filled with the Miocene sediments preserved in different altitudes have been suggested earlier. However, the Lower Miocene (Eggeburgian and Ottnangian) sediments preserved both at the valley bottom and in the upper parts of the horst above the valley, abrupt changes in valley bottom bedrocks (Fig. 3,4) and other examples of geomorphological assymetry testify the tectonic origin of the valley. It originated probably due to the influence of rejuvenation of intensive cataclastic deformation of the Brno Massif. Six kilometers wide valley represents the zone of active normal faulting with typical steplike graben features (Fig. 1, 2).
Its origin is connected with the general forebulging of flexed outer part of the Carpathian Foredeep after collision of the Bohemian Massif with Carpathian and Pannonian blocks. Psefitic development of the Lower Badenian transgressive clastic deposits proof the alternation of the literal and terrestrial environments, when the extensive masses of coarse debris moved down the fault scarps of the graben
