Abstract (in english)
The Devonian and the Upper Carboniferous sediments of the Moravo-Silesian and the Ardennes regions are parts of the European Variscan Externides (Rhenohercynian zone). There are some similarities, but also differences in tectonic and sedimentary developments of these regions. The development of sedimentation in the Ardennes is comparable with the development in the eastern part of the Moravo-Silesian region. Sedimentation of shallow-water siliciclastic sediments started during Lower Devonian age (near Silurian/Devonian boundary) in the allochtonne of the Ardennes region, deposition of sedimentary rocks in the Boulonnais and the Brabant paraautochtonne began later, during the Givetian age. The platform-carbonates occured and carbonate sedimentation, predominanted from the Givetian up to the end of the Viséan.
In contrast to the Ardennes, the flysh (Culmian) sedimentation in the Moravo-Silesian region started from the begining of the Carboniferous, possibly already from the end of the Devonian. Notwithstanding in some parts of the Moravo-Silesian region the carbonate sedimentation continued up to the Viseán age. During the Upper Carboniferous there is molasse sedimentation continued up to the Viséan age. During the Upper Carboniferous there is molasse sedimentation with important coal occurences in both regions. Also the Permocarboniferous development of the Boskovice furrows inner molasse basin have analogy with the Ardennes region-the Malmedy graben. The surface occurence area of the Devonian-Carboniferous rocks in the Ardennes is comparable with the area of the whole Moravo-Silesian region including the crystaline units in the western part. But the development of sedimentation in the Ardennes is comparable only with the development in the eastern part of the Moravo-Silesian region.
