Abstract (in english)
The Carolina-Piedmont terrane in the southern Appalachians has been correlated with the Teplá-Barrandian of the Bohemian Massif based upon Late Proterozoic-Cambrian geological and faunal data. However, the Teplá-Barrandian is also believed to be part of Armorica which formed part of North Africa, whereas the Carolina-Piedmont terrane is inferred to have a South America provenance. Although, paleomagnetic and isotopic data are inconclusive regarding connections between the Teplá-Barrandian and Carolina-Piedmont terranes, the Precambrian and Lower Paleozoic geological record and faunal provinciality data indicate provenance from North Africa and South America, respectively
