Abstract (in english)
   Three years (1994-1996) of hydrological and chemical data from GEOMON network of fourteen small forest catchments are presented. The latest annual set of data from 1997 is just being processed. All of the data were acquired by a uniform sampling and analytical protocol. Bulk deposition, throughfall deposition and runoff of ecologically important component were measured on a montly basis. Some trends have been discovered as a changes. In the border mountains of northern and western part of the Czech Republic (Imission area) remedial measurements caused decrease of regional burder, especially of sulphate sulphur (S) and nitrate nitrogen (N) - both in throughfall and bulk deposition. Throughfall deposition below spruce canopies in Jezeří JEZ catchment in the Krušné hory Mts. was rather exceptional in that it increased between 1995 and 1996 because of high portion of SO2. It caused new occurence of forest dieback.
   In contrast to the prevailing decrease in Imission area deposition of S markedly increased in relatively clean parts of the Czech Republic (Background area) in the Ceskomoravská vrchovina highlands and in the Šumava Mts. The most apparent difference between both groups of the catchments was discovered in runoff on nitrogen. Runoff from the catchments of Immission area with damaged forests is very high in consequence of that forests have lost their ability to take up N as a nutrient. Budget became even negative in some catchments of that area. On the contrary in Background area relatively healthy vegetation the runoff was considerably lower. Critical loads of S and N for forested areas of the catchments were calculated using the data on weathering, soil properties and the consumption of basic cations by the vegetation. Calculated values were compared with the actual deposition figures and exceedances were calculated.
