Abstract (in english)
The high flood on the Berounka river in 1890 is described in detail according to the historical sources. While high floods were abundant in Central Bohemia through 19th century (1824, 1845, 1862, 1872, 1876, 1890), we observe in 20th century only two larger floods (1940-1941, 1954) on the level of 20-30 year high flood. This fact lead to the diminishing of the historical memory and consenquently to the construction of numerous structures, mostly weekend houses in the Berounka floodplain. The recent high flood cluster seem to suggest the enhanced high water risk and potentially hundreds if not thousands of buildings including part of Beroun, Cement factory in Králův Dvůr and other objects are endangered
