Abstract (in english)
The present study is focused on pre-restoration material research of stones used on the Colonnade near valtice (southern Moravia, Czech Republic). The Colonnade near Valtice terminates Lednice-Valtice area - a large scale man-cultivated region comprising architectural monuments scattered in landscape fashioned according to the English romantic principles of landscaping. Built at the beginning pf 19th century, the Colonnade offered chance to employ properties of natural and artificial building materials in order to increase aesthetic value of the monument. Due to a long-term lack of maintenance, this monument shows serious deterioration. Current research has focused on the nature of present building materials and on the cause of their decay. Optical microscopy, X-ray diffraction, and FTIR spetroscopy provided basic information to distinguish between natural and artificial stones
